The international education community turned its attention to Assam as Prasenjit Sarma was honoured with the Global Teacher Award 2025 at the Global Education Fest 2025–26 in New Delhi. The award, presented by AKS Education Awards, recognizes educators whose work demonstrates excellence, innovation, and long-term impact on teaching and learning worldwide.

For Prasenjit Sarma, this achievement reflects over a decade of dedicated service and innovation in education. After qualifying the Assam TET in 2012, he began his career with a clear focus on student-centered learning. His philosophy has consistently emphasized inclusivity, technology integration, and empowering teachers with practical tools rather than abstract theories.

One of Sarma’s most notable early achievements came in 2017, when he created India’s first smart classroom for primary education through crowdfunding. This initiative not only transformed local learning environments but also showcased how community-supported innovation could overcome resource limitations in public schools.

Today, Sarma stands at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence in education. His research and development efforts have resulted in AI-powered tools that are actively used by educators and students across the globe. The AI Lesson Plan Creator, generating over 16,000 lesson plans daily, has become an essential resource for teachers seeking efficiency without compromising quality.

Equally impactful is the AI Teacher app, which has enabled more than 55 lakh learners worldwide to access education anytime and anywhere. Supporting tools such as AI Writing Assistants, Proofreading tools, and the NIPUN Mitra AI Chatbot further demonstrate Sarma’s commitment to making technology intuitive, accessible, and classroom-ready.

Beyond digital innovation, Sarma’s leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic stands as a testament to his commitment. He coordinated district-wide online education programs across Barpeta and Bajali districts and spearheaded ‘Utkarsh’, a major teacher training initiative that helped educators transition to digital platforms during the crisis.

His contributions to school development include creative initiatives like Hanging Libraries, Hanging Gardens, Teachers’ Parliament, and BaLA Painting. These projects have strengthened student engagement, parental involvement, and school governance models.

As an author, Sarma has written several widely used educational books, covering FLN learning outcomes, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, child psychology, and student workbooks that are referenced internationally.

His achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the Best Teacher Award from Assam Down Town University, Sewa Ratna Award 2024, and recognition from multiple district administrations. Earlier in 2025, he was also nominated for the National Teachers’ Award by the Government of India.

The Global Teacher Award 2025 is a crowning moment in Prasenjit Sarma’s journey. It not only celebrates his work but also places Assam firmly on the global education map, inspiring educators across India and beyond.
