Wing Commander (Dr.) Pushkal Vijay Dwivedi (Retd.) has been inducted as a ‘Vishisht Sadasya’ (Distinguished Member) of the Bhartiya Shiksha Board Society, the governing society of the Bhartiya Shiksha Board (BSB).

The decision was taken at the Managing Committee meeting of the Bhartiya Shiksha Board Society on September 12, 2026. The formal appointment communication dated September 14 was issued by Rajesh Pratap Singh, IPS (Retd.), Secretary, Bhartiya Shiksha Board.

From military service to nation-building

Wing Commander Dr. Pushkal Vijay Dwivedi has emerged as a distinctive voice at the intersection of national security, strategic affairs and education. After serving in the Indian Air Force, he carried the discipline and strategic orientation of military service into a wider mission centred on nation-building and youth development.

He currently serves as Director General, Bhartiya Shiksha Anusandhan Parishad (BSAP), and has been closely associated with educational research, curriculum development and initiatives aimed at preparing Indian students for the challenges of the 21st century.

His most distinctive educational contribution is ‘Self Defence Science’ (Aatmaraksha Vigyan), a new school subject bringing self-protection, preparedness and resilience into a structured educational framework. Dr. Dwivedi is known as the “Father of Self Defence Science” for his pioneering role in conceptualising and advancing the discipline.

A rare strategic profile

Dr. Dwivedi’s work extends well beyond education. His involvement in geopolitical strategy, defence manufacturing, journalism, authorship, technical innovations and strategic affairs has brought him into close interaction with policymakers and the country’s senior leadership.

He is also a familiar presence on leading national television channels as a geopolitical and defence analyst, offering perspectives on international developments, political – military affairs, strategic competition and India’s position in the world.

His professional journey connects security, strategic autonomy, indigenous capability, education and social development, giving him a distinctive understanding of the challenges before a rapidly transforming India.

Dr Pushkal Dwivedi holds a Doctorate in Quantum Weapons and is also working as partner to DRDO in few of the ongoing sensitive confidential Projects.

Close engagement with spiritual leadership

Dr. Dwivedi also enjoys a special rapport with prominent spiritual leaders. His close association with Pujya Swami Ramdev Ji and special place with Shankaracharya peeth reflect his engagement with India’s civilisational and knowledge traditions.

His work increasingly brings together strategic thought, education, cultural heritage and nation-building, an intersection that assumes particular significance in the context of BSB.

BSB’s national education mandate

The Bhartiya Shiksha Board is a National School Education Board notified by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. Its objective is to develop an education framework combining Indian traditional knowledge with modern educational requirements.

The Bhartiya Shiksha Board Society provides the institutional framework for the Board, with the Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust playing a significant role in its establishment and development.

BSB’s educational approach emphasises Indian knowledge traditions, cultural heritage and values alongside contemporary learning and skills, in keeping with the National Education Policy 2020.

Dwivedi expresses gratitude

Reacting to the appointment, Wing Commander Dr. Pushkal Vijay Dwivedi expressed deep gratitude to the Board’s leadership.

> “I receive this responsibility with profound humility and a deep sense of gratitude. I am sincerely thankful to the top leadership of the Bhartiya Shiksha Board for placing their trust and confidence in me. I am particularly grateful to Pujya Swami Ramdev Ji for his visionary leadership and the faith he has reposed in my work,” Dwivedi said.

Expressing special gratitude to Dr. N. P. Singh, Chairman, Bhartiya Shiksha Board, he said:

> “I regard Dr. N. P. Singh Ji not merely as the Chairman of the Board, but as my mentor and a continuous source of inspiration. His clarity of thought, vision and commitment to the modernisation of the Indian education system have deeply influenced me.”

Dwivedi also thanked Pujya Acharya Balkrishna Ji for his contribution to education, Indian knowledge traditions and cultural preservation.

He described the appointment as “not merely an honour, but a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Indian education.”

A larger national mission

The induction brings together BSB’s vision for an Indian-rooted modern education system and Dr. Dwivedi’s multidisciplinary experience in defence, strategy, innovation and education.
