Rekha Gupta, the chief minister of Delhi, stated today that she witnessed a guy in a car tossing a “roti” at a cow in order to feed it. She asked him to stop, saying that this puts the lives of the stray cattle and other road users in danger. “Roti” is more than simply food, she claimed; it is a “symbol of our culture, faith, and respect.”

Ms. Gupta asked Delhiites not to toss “roti” or any other food on the road after sharing a video of her encounter with the man on X.

In the video, the first-time MLA and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) approaches the man and introduces herself. Then, with her hands clasped, she asked him not to feed stray calves.

Ms. Gupta wrote in Hindi, “The act of throwing roti on the road forces cows and other animals to come there to eat, which not only endangers their lives but also endangers the safety of people and vehicles walking on the road.”

“Food should not be treated with contempt. Please feed animals at a gaushala (cow shelter) or another approved location if you like to do so. This demonstrates our sensibility, accountability, and ideals,” she continued.

Ms. Gupta’s petition was made weeks after a herd of cattle wandered onto the Haiderpur flyover, stopping her convoy for about fifteen minutes. To examine how the animals were doing, the chief minister was spotted getting out of her vehicle. After that, her security guards stepped in to make sure they were safely pushed aside.

After the BJP defeated the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to win the government in Delhi after more than 26 years, Ms. Gupta was appointed chief minister and gave the order to give suitable housing for the local stray cattle.

In Delhi’s yearly budget, Rs 40 crore has also been put out for the construction of a “Model Gaushala,” or contemporary cow shelter.
